Design method for a bidirectional ducted tidal turbine based on conventional turbomachinery methods

Renewable energy sources include solar, wind, hydro, geothermal and biomass. Furthermore, ocean is being rapidly harnessed worldwide. In this study, to establish a suitable design method for various bidirectional ducted tidal turbines, instead of using blade element momentum theory CFD, which have been used previously, the turbomachinery was designing turbines. A turbine optimises equipment reduces manufacturing maintenance costs. Using power as condition, difference in tangential velocity between front rear calculated Euler’s equation, stagger angle determined based on potential flow theory. To incorporate effect duct geometry into future, internal experimentally investigated three ducts with different maximum cross-sectional areas. Performance tests showed that had negligible rate through turbine. Therefore, larger diameter duct, greater outside duct. The pressure inflow were due conversion turned improve accuracy method, at inlet should be incorporated, review estimation axial ratio selection representative value conducted.
